Notes, [ca.1960-ca.1980].

Consists of two folio binders of notes and computer printouts relating to a pioneering study of early American church silver conducted by Garvan with the assistance of Philip Stone. Using contingency tables and chi square techniques, Garvan attempted to document the history of church silvers. Categories used included types of silver, church locations, makers, date the item was made, etc. The tabulations represent summaries from punch cards. Also included is a scrapbook of art history, probably compiled as a student at Yale University. The approximately 200 pages in this scrapbook contain clippings of famous artworks by European and American painters cut from various books and magazines. Some are chromolithographs. Beside each image are notes about the paintings describing technics used and style of the artist. 10-20 pages in the end of the volume give an overview of art history and includes tables showing style, geographic location, painter's birth and death dates, and working period.
